We’ve all been there—you blow through your budget and find yourself with nothing left to contribute to savings at the end of the month. Don’t beat yourself up, though. Budgeting isn’t easy, and neither is trying to figure out exactly how much money you can save.

That’s why we’ve come up with a tool to help. It’s called Smart-Stash, and it’s one of the improved features of Auto-Stash.

Here’s what Smart-Stash is all about.

What is Smart-Stash, and how does it work?

Smart-Stash (formerly called Smart-Save) helps you save more money.

Smart-Stash analyzes your income and spending patterns—such as rent payments, phone bills, and how much you tend to spend at the grocery store—and calculates how much you can afford to save.

It then schedules an automatic transfer from your linked checking account to your cash balance, once you’ve accumulated enough funds, which is at least $5. You can set a maximum transfer of $5, $10, or $25, and Smart-Stash will move the money. It will never transfer more than the maximum amount.

Note: Smart-Stash transfers occur Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. When you earn Smart-Stash savings over the weekend, those amounts will be added and transferred to your cash balance on the next business day.

How to turn Smart-Stash on or off, and change your settings

You can turn Smart-Stash on or off at any time. To access your settings, log into the Stash app and select your Account. From there, you can find your Smart-Stash settings under the Auto-Stash tab.

From there, you can set the transfer limit ($5, $10, or $25) that you’d like Smart-Stash to automatically save for you, as well as turn Smart-Stash on or off.

Note: Not all banks may support Smart-Stash and Round-Ups at this time.
